Who studies here?

Men and women of all ages and backgrounds study at HTC.  Ages range from school-leavers to retired people.  Some of HTC’s students are training for pastoral ministry – often these are mature students who are retraining following experiencing a call to ministry.  Students train at HTC for a wide range of other Christian work too: youth work, chaplaincy, missionary work, etc.  Many students (particularly Access students) study for interest only.  Occasionally we also have students who study theology ‘just as an academic subject’.

HTC is a recognised provider of training and education for the Associated Presbyterian Churches, and United Free Church of Scotland.  Historically it has also been recognised by the Church of Scotland and remains so for OLM and Lay Reader training. Students from a wide variety of other denominations train at HTC too.  HTC is non-denominational.  Typically the staff and students on campus at any given time will represent well over a dozen denominations!
