Highland Theological College UHI is looking for an experienced librarian with subject expertise in theology (and, to a lesser extent, in philosophy). This student-facing role is based in Dingwall and the successful applicant will be able to work with students at every stage of their learner journey, from access to tertiary education through to PhD, although the bulk of the librarian’s work will be with undergraduate students studying theology and philosophy. S/he will provide support in every aspect of accessing and using HTC’s extensive library, including print and digital resources. The library holds around 70,000 print volumes and access to an extensive collection of theological and philosophical books, journals and other relevant resources in electronic format through the University of the Highlands and Islands. The successful candidate will liaise closely with the UHI Library and Information Services team and will also provide leadership to a team of enthusiastic volunteers who ably assist in the smooth operation of the library. Excellent communication skills are a must, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced and frequently-demanding environment. The successful applicant should be sympathetic towards the ethos and mission of Highland Theological College UHI.

A normal fulltime working schedule of 35 hours per week is expected and this will include covering late opening (until 20:00) one evening a week during semester. HTC may be open to the possibility of a job share or flexible working hours, if appropriate arrangements can be made to accommodate fully the needs of our student body. The post offers 30 days of leave per annum, plus public holidays (rising to 35 days per annum after the first 12 months). The salary for the post is £26,000 and a workplace pension scheme is available to the successful candidate.

Applications should be submitted by 17:00 on Monday 29th July and interviews will take place on Monday 5 August, 2019. The appointment will begin as soon as the successful candidate’s notice period allows. For further information please contact Alan Buist (
