HTC's Research Seminars recommence
Our 2026 Research Seminar programme resumes next week (9th September).
With several sessions led by noted academics such as Markus Bockmuehl (Oxford), Phil Sumpter (Bonn) and David Reimer (HTC) will be be exploring their subject specialisms.
Our main focus for this season is a series of discussions based around Oliver O’Donovan’s landmark book ‘The Disappearance of Ethics.’
O’Donovan addresses a discipline in crisis and contends that contemporary ethics has lost its object (good), frontier (time), and agent (person). O’Donovan’s work shows how ethics has lost its heart and how the field can regain its purpose. He completes his lectures by integrating theology and philosophy to recover ethics. Contemplating theological concepts such as creation, divine law, and justification undergirds ethics by generating “existential wonder.”
Over seven online sessions we will be working through this book and discussing the issues raised , with a special final session (11th November) featuring a live Q&A with Professor Oliver O'Donovan himself!
