Honorary Research Fellow Appointment

The Board of Governors and Academic Board of HTC are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Donald E. Meek as an Honorary Research Fellow in Highland Faith and Culture.

Over many years now, Professor Meek, latterly Professor of Scottish and Gaelic Studies at the University of Edinburgh and prior to that Professor of Celtic at the University of Aberdeen (1993-2001), has been a great encourager and supporter of HTC.

His support for us began in the early years of the college in the 1990s when we were still based in Moray College, Elgin. At that time, he encouraged us to offer BA modules for Gaelic-speaking students preparing for ministry, and also encouraged us to consider offering a Masters’ level programme in Highland Church History – areas that he was keen to promote.

It was largely due to his encouragement that, a couple of years prior to the Covid epidemic, we began our Highland Church History occasional lectures, and also our Highland Church History Forum.

On a couple of occasions since then Donald himself has delivered such lectures for us, one on Dugald Buchanan, the other on Dugald Sinclair. More recently he gave a lecture to staff and postgraduate students on differing attitudes to the Church and Christian faith expressed in the works of significant Gaelic authors.

We extend a very warm welcome to Donald as he becomes part of the academic and research active team here at HTC, and we look forward to the stimulation that his input will bring. Ceud mìle fàilte oirbh, a Dhòmhnaill!
