mp3 - wma - rna -  ogg - What does it mean?

These abbreviations are used on this web site to identify the software which your computer may need to play the audio files as or after you download them. We provide our audio files in four different formats. In this way we hope to make what we offer available to visitors to whom a single format might be inaccessible.

MP3

Many programs are available to play mp3 files. Computers running the "Windows" operating system have "Windows Media Player" available. A popular and free mp3 player is "Winamp". It can be downloaded from:

"Quicktime" is another program which may be used with mp3 files.

Because of the large number of PC operating systems and the many different audio players and player versions it is not easy to provide a generic guide to accessing our audio files. Our best advice is to go to the list of available files. Choose one, then choose a file format and try to open the link. If you 'right-click' your mouse you may then be able to save the file to your computer so you can play it later, or open it immediately so you can start listening to it right away.

You may find that, for one of the formats, your computer already has suitable player software installed. If you have success with none of the formats you may need to download and install a player. The links in the left column of this page may be helpful.

Download then play, or play now?

When you select an audio file two options may appear. You may be able to save the file to your computer so it can be played once or more later. Alternatively you may be able to begin listening to the file immediately, but it may not be saved to your computer. In this case if you wanted to hear the audio item again you would have to reconnect to the internet.
